How to Erase Moire in 5 Seconds

When the wedding planner says “don’t lock your knees” you should definitely take their advice.

How do I know?

Well, I barely know, actually.

I was holding hands with my husband-to-be-in-the-next-three-minutes and we were reciting our vows.

(At least I’m pretty sure that’s when it happened.)

THUD! Gasp!

One of our groomsmen went down.

Several people went to help him back up.

That’s why you don’t lock your knees. You could faint—even if you’re a big tall man.

Witnesses of our wedding say that my husband and I turned our heads for half a second with blank stares and then we went back to the business of vow-making.

He was fine, we were told. Although a bit pale after the ordeal.

We made it through the rest of the ceremony—and it was magical!✨ Or so it seemed to us. Family and friends surrounded us with love. 🥰

That happened 25 years ago last Thursday. 🥂✨

Sometimes unexpected things happen at weddings, as I’m sure you know all too well!

And sometimes, unexpected things happen with your photos. The one I want to tackle today is the dreaded moire effect—that rainbow-swirly-thing that happens sometimes, usually with suits.

There’s a quick fix so let’s do it!

Your Weekly Photo Editing Tip

Moire is usually pretty easy to fix if you use the moire brush. Thank goodness! This is how:

Step 1

Take out the brush tool by tapping “K” on your keyboard.

Step 2

Scroll down to the Detail section and you see the moire slider. Crank that up to 100.

Step 3

Brush over the parts of the image where you see moire.

And you’re done! The rainbow colors are gone. In my experience, this brush works most of the time.

Pro tip: Try not to brush over areas without moire or you might desaturate colors that you don’t want to.

Note: There is a default moire brush in the brush presets but for some reason I can’t ever make it to work. Maybe it works in your Lightroom?

Happy editing,
